Mel's Talk on Saturday

Mel Odom and
Boram Kim

The Seventeen Dolls were the main focus of Mel's talk, but he also talked about the future of Gene and answered questions at the end of the seminar. Here are some quick points.
*Pas De Deux, Presidential Ball, and Rags to Riches have been nominated for DOTY Awards.
*What you see is what you get, most of the dolls at IDEX were production dolls.
* The Gene line for 2003 is much smaller due to requests of the collectors and the general state of the economy.
*The line is mostly 50's inspired.
*The whole line is dressed Dolls.
*Mel said since the line is much smaller, they are making each doll more special.
*Besides Very Violet (to keep costs down) there will be no ribbon tie shoes in the 2003 line.
*The 2003 dolls will have eyebrows that match their hair and lip colour to match the outfit.
*Michelle Tibbets designed Rags to Riches. Mel would like at least one historical gown like this per year.
*When asked if Trent was in rehab this year, (He got a chuckle out of that one) Mel said that he still loves Trent and encouraged everyone to call AD and put in their requests to have the Trent line continued.
* Directors chairs and pins were given out to guests. Those who did not recieve favors will have theirs mailed to them later.
*Mel gave out a signed illustration that he recently created. It is a composite sketch of Shanghai Siren and Siren in the night titled "Shanghai Sirens".
