Helen Kish Luncheon

This was the first convention event for Helen. She was a very gracious and humble lady with a clever sense of humor. She had a beautiful slide presentation of the evolution of her craft, skills, and line. She designed a unique centerpiece that was a cast plaque of her logo, a pair of hands holding a doll head. It was mounted on an acrylic cylinder base with colored pebbles inside. Ornamented with silk flowers. Although the piece was beautiful, it was a shipping nightmare. Most people were not participating in the drawing....what a shame.

The event doll was very fitting in the Mod theme, 10 1/2" Hippie flowerchild named "Summer of Love", LE 100. She wears a soft tie dye shirt (loop button closures in back), batik bellbottom pants, multiple hair streamers, beaded necklace with peace symbol, carrying a single silk flower, has bare feet. The table decoration was a delicate pastel blue dress with bonnet. It had hand embroidered trim, loop button closures, delicate lace trim. The form that was holding up the dress had a Kish pin for the face. Very appreciated for the craftsmanship by attendees.

Robert Tonner Dinner

Robert presented a slide story of his Club Doll Jane's Birthday. It was delightful with Jane having dreams of herself in wonderful outfits in an adorable doll house. At the end she is surrounded by her friends with a Birthday cake. Both the MADC and Wakeen representatives later noted that THEY had not been invited to Jane's party and were feeling very slighted, very well received joke on Robert. This was an exciting event as we were all expecting a regular size Kitty souvenir. Then we find, we are the recipients of the first ever Tiny Kitty Collier doll in a gift set, 10" doll, LE 300.
Doll has twist waist and bendy knees. Is very poseable, the sewers were hyperventilating with excitement. Robert announced that the remainder of the dolls would be available for sale after the event. When the first doll went for $400 on ebay, there was a storm to buy up the dolls. I believe they were close to sell out. Doll wears white girdle and bra, pearl earrings and necklace, black strappy shoes, brown hair in an upsweep. 2nd outfit is a shimmery black suit with white satin/tafetta lapels and white blouse, mauve hair ornament and corsage, black suede shoes, black handbag. 3rd outfit is a red velvet gown shaped much like vintage Barbie's Silhouette, faux fur stole, long white gloves, red strappy shoes, rhinestone earrings and necklace, silver clutch purse. The set came with an illustrated card of the set, red silk rose for us, signed COA. Tonner's upcoming Emme prototypes were available for viewing in the Showcase. I was especially excited about that.
